How does this Drierite work?

When dry these crystals are blue, but as they absorb moisture, they turn pink.  This indicates that it is time to change your drierite or to put in an oven and dry out (it turns back blue).  For sake of cost, some will mix the indicating with the white drierite and when the blue particles turn pink, they know it’s time to change or to dry.
